Microsoft ha lanzado una aplicación llamada Microsoft Private Folder que permite proteger el acceso a la carpeta "My Private Folder" (creada con la instalación del programa) a través de una contraseña.
La aplicación se puede descargar desde el site de Microsoft o desde Trucowindows.net.

Ya está disponible la nueva versión 1.6 de mi cliente BitTorrent favorito, µTorrent. Tienen dos opciones, bajarse la versión NO instalable (170 kb), que se puede ejecutar sin instalar. O bien bajarse la version INSTALABLE (565 kb) que la instalan y queda como cualquiero otro programa.

Mientras que Microsoft lanzo hace unos días su "suite de "seguridad"", Windows Live OneCare. Ahora Symantec sale con un "nuevo" Norton 360, el cual contiene una serie de programas y herramientas que protegen contra el phishing, keyloggers, virus y spyware. La solución también incorporará una herramienta para copias de seguridad y optimización de la PC.
El precio variará entre 40 y 60 dólares anuales. La fecha de lanzamiento aún no ha sido definida, pero Symantec informa que Norton 360 será lanzado antes de finalizado el presente año fiscal, que finaliza el 31 de marzo de 2007.

El futuro competidor (aparte de Gimp ) de Photoshop se podría llamar "Pixel ", es un software de edición de imágenes profesional pero su gran ventaja es el costo de la licencia, que al momento cuesta 32 dólares.
También hay una versión de prueba por 30 días para descargar, las únicas limitaciones que tiene es que en cada imágen guardada se imprime una "marca de agua" y además muestra un mensaje ofreciendo comprarlo. Si quieren ver su aspecto hay una serie de screenshots .

Mientras que recién les comentaba el lanzamiento de Firefox 1.5.0.4 , ahora le toca a su "papá", SeaMonkey 1.0.2 (ex Mozilla Suite). Aquí estan explicadas las nuevas mejoras con respecto a la seguridad.
Gmail Remote Command es una excelente aplicación especialmente hecha para Gmail , y sirve para controlar una PC remotamente, por ejemplo, abrir páginas webs, ejecutar programas, y hasta apagar el equipo (remoto). Todo esto se hace mediante comandos enviados por mail.
El programa esperará instrucciones cada 60 segundos chequeando la cuenta de mail para ver si llega algún mensaje.
Por ejemplo, si quieres abrir una página de Internet deberás poner en el "asunto" del mail el "comando" y en el cuerpo del mensaje dejar en blanco:

Para apagar la PC remota deberás poner en el asunto:

Microsoft la liberó ayer para su descarga directamente desde sus propios servidores. La principal novedad es la nueva funcionalidad de Word en el que se puede publicar directamente a nuestros blogs.
La única aclaración sería que al ser una versión beta (a esta hora lo tendrían que saber) puede llegar a tener bugs y no funcionar correctamente, pero para eso se liberó, justamente para "mejorarlo".
Sun se ha comprometido públicamente a abrir el código del lenguaje de programación Java.
Las mismas fuentes aseguraron que Sun espera abrir el código de Java bajo una licencia de la OSI, lo que incrementará el número de usuarios de Java.
Hasta ahora, la compañía se había negado a liberar el código fuente de Java porque alegaba problemas de compatibilidad y cierto temor a perder el control sobre el mismo.
En palabras del presidente ejecutivo de Sun, Rich Green, «a estas alturas no es una cuestión de si lo vamos a hacer, sino que sólo es cuestión de cómo».
